» The Gruffalo

Hear the story and make a mouse finger puppet. Take your mouse into the park to look for The Gruffalo following a trail of footprints from the animals in the story. Work together to make a Gruffalo footprint from natural materials and collect some ingredients for a Gruffalo crumble.

» The Very Hungry Caterpillar

Listen to the story and discuss the life cycle and how the caterpillar is camouflaged. Go into the park and collect camouflage for a caterpillar and play the caterpillar game. Play a game to find the matching halves of symmetrical butterflies and collect natural materials to make your own symmetrical butterfly.

» Look out for the Big Bad Fish

Read the story and make your own tadpole to take out and look at the ponds. Investigate the creatures living there (in trays of water). Walk around the gardens spotting pond creatures and stick pictures of them onto a headband.

» Stick Man

Read the story and make your own Stick man. Take your stick men out and follow a trail on the ground. Make a picture from found materials of a place where stickman visits in the story. Have a go at improvising some other uses for a stick.

» Mud

Come and dig in the mud and discover what lives there. Look for animal tracks. Use the mud to make sculptures and tree spirits.

» We're Going on a Bear Hunt

Read the story and get ready for a journey by choosing appropriate clothes and making a pair of binoculars. Go on a Gatton Bear Hunt following bear paw prints to find the bears.

An introduction to growing using this favourite story as inspiration. Planting seeds and gardening activities around the grounds. Make a scarecrow to take home.

Linking some of our favourite nursery rhymes to activities about minibeasts. We will go digging to look for worms, hunt for ladybirds, caterpillars and ants in the meadow and pretend to be bees from the beehives.
